Paperwork

Evaluation

for our assignment we got told to make a music, I thought we made an entertaining music video although we could of made it more proffesional if we thought of tiny things and made them look better.
the responsabilities I had durer in the making of this video were shooting the shots that I was not in, directing some of it because I had ideas and editing. shots that I filmed were Fraizer leaning round a wall, point of veiw shots of me, Gareths, Lukes and Fraizers head leaning round a wall, crew running round a corner, crew meeting up eating popcorn and Gareths rap. I also did editing and I do admit that I was selfish because I did most of the editing and I didn't want them to ruin what I did because I was chuffed with it.

When I came back after being absent for a while I thougt we were more organised, we got our song recorded quickly, we put it with the music with the music quickly, we quickly found where we were going to film the music video and we made up our set due to things which were lying around on the floor. The editing we got done quickly because I did nearly all of it and was the most experienced with simular software to final cut pro such as adobe premier. One o fht eshots I did shoot wasn't long enough and the camera was not rolling enough for the software to batch capture, I we had to log the clip for longer and cut it down manually. This was somthing I did learn and I will be more aware of it in future. Could of improved on how to not be selfish when it comes to editing because that could be a good thing due to the fact we could of had more variety of interests in our video, which could of made it better.

I leanrt how to think quickly, do things quickly such as express shots which pop in my to the group as an idea and knowing what I have planned to do, get it done quickly. I would say my editing skills have improved a bit, I was pleased that I could edit a music video in a day and because there on macs which is more difficult compared to a PC, I was able to pick it up quickly. Skills that I struggled with were logging and capturing to begin with because how you did it. With help from my group they steered me in the right direction and I eventually got use to it quickly.

The overall quality of our video was OK, some bit's were good, some bits were bad. The picture quality of the was good, can't argue with it. Lighting was good, we had natural sunlight the best light you can get. Camerawork could of improved a little bit in a fight scene we had, we should of had more variety of shots to make it more cliff hanging. Sound we had a bit of an issue with because we recorded it in the radio studio and getting the sound levels right was hard because some people were louder than others. This meant we had to Edit it and put the gain up which improved it but if you listen to the song I sound a lot louder than Gareth and Fraizer. Had a issue with the lip syncing, when we played it on final cut pro, it was fine but when we put it on to DVD it was out. If we were to do this again we would improve organisation, be more prepared and be more creative.

Our use of editing was effective because our song was quick and up beat which went well with the editing because our editing was quick. Shots that we used were a bit origonal like the 360 of Fraizer, it had a big effect because it's a rare shot. Costumes I thought we chose well considering our genre of music was rap, we dressed up in hoodies, tracksuit bottoms, hats, jeans, I thought it had an obvious reperesentation of us. Thought our locations were well thought out beacause there was graffiti, which suited our genre of music. It was a scrappy place, so it suits the neighbourhood characteristic. Luckely enough we found three fridges at the abandond Peter's ice cream factory and we thought we will use them as props for a scene which we had in mind to give it a stealth type feel. The only sound we used in the video was me saying "give us your sweets". I would say this was effective because it gives away the obvious narrative. Our narrative was eeffective in a way of it being strong, violent but at least it had a happy ending. Story involves Gareth getting mugged, he get's his crew and then they get there own back on me.

I thought my ideas did not come across as well compared to the rest of the groups. Ideas of shots I came up with we shot them but did not come out well on the finshed peice. Rest of the group had a much better imagination than me and they proved it with there shots coming out on the finished peice better. The idea of the narrative the rest of the group liked, storyboards which we made had simular narratives just different shots. Compared to the proposal I had, the charcters behaved in the same way as I planned in the finnished peice and and the narrative was almost the same. Anything to improve on would be for me to be more creative.

Feedback from: Good areas included good narrative, twist was likable, they thought it was funny and slapstick and the pace fitted well with the song.
weak areas: lip sinking needs improving, jump shots and needs more close ups
shots they liked included 360 of fraizer, ally shot and they found the shot of the three fridges amusing.
Griffti on wall was good loaction
fight scene needs to be edited quicker, editing flows well with the music.
Bit more styleing to costumes
suitibility for target audience was spot on.

What inspired us to do a rap genre music video was that it was easy to do and due to the research the characteristics for this genre are obvious and easier to undestand. This way it meant we could get our work done quicker.

What I would do differently our would be us actually playing the music because most of us are musically talented and I would of been more proud of what we did. Also I would have more reationship between lyrics and video. For example if the lyric was "doing wheelies in BMX" I would have the talent doing a wheely on a BMX. Overall I thought we did a smooth, celver job.
